Ottery St Mary will be seeking to do something tomorrow that they have not managed in each of the past three seasons – defeat visiting Otterton at Washbrook Meadow.

Otterton have departed from a visit to the home of the Otters on each of the last three occasions with all three points!

Last season the teams met in late November in a Division Three game that Otterton won 2-1. The season before (2016/17), Otterton won the Division Four meeting that was played on March 11, 2-017, 3-2.

In the 2015/16 season, when both sides were in Division Five, they met at Washbrook Meadow on the opening day of the season and Otterton won that meeting 2-1.

However, the two sides have very different ‘current form’ going into this latest meeting with Ottery St Mary heading into the game seeking a seventh successive league win whilst Otterton have lost each of their last three league games.

They did meet back in September in a midweek game at Otterton and that match was won 3-1 by the home team.

Ottery boss Dave Fairweather is not one to bury his head in previous results and head-to-head stats. He says: “You cannot hide from the facts that they [Otterton] currently have a very healthy record when it comes to playing us here at Washbrook Meadow. However, I shall be reminding the players that, come 3pm on Saturday afternoon it’s all about what we do in the following 90 minutes. So far this season we have been playing well and taking training ground work into match days with good success and I am confident that, if we focus on making sure we do the things we can control correctly, and then ultimately we will get our just rewards.”

One man who will be itching to get at Otterton is Ottery striker Corey Ringer who is the leading scorer across all four of the top division’s in the Macron League. Ringer has scored 11 in the current six game winning run. Interestingly, the Otters’ hit man has always scored more than one when he finds the net in recent matches. He hit three in the 5-1 win at Axminster Town, two in the 4-3 victory at Tedburn St May, two in the 5-1 home win over Clyst Valley and again netted twice in the 6-1 win at Newton St Cyres. He was then without a goal in the 10-0 win at North Tawton and got two in the 4-1 home success over Budleigh Salterton.

Otter’s boss Dave Fairweather says: “Ironically, that 10-0 win when Corey did not score was arguably his best individual performance in the six winning games. That day he was superb in the target man role and players fed off him.

“That said, he is in good form with his finishing, but he’d be the first to say it’s a team game and for every goal he scores a team mate – or three – have played their part.”
