Ottery St Mary were beaten 1-0 on their Macron League Division Four visit to Kentisbeare.

It was a disappointing end to the away league campaign for the Otters who received a double blow to their promotion hopes when news also came through that University fifth inflicted a first defeat of the season on title-chasing Thorverton and a win also for Countess Wear Dynamoes.

Both those other results mean that the Otters are no longer in control of their own destiny in the table and, with just one game to play – at home to Otterton on Saturday (March 11), they could be caught by both University and Countess Wear and so finish as low as sixth in the table.

That would almost certainly mean no promotion this time round for the ambitious Otters who have enjoyed back-to-back promotions in recent seasons.

Make sure of a copy of the Sidmouth Herald (out next on Friday, March 10) for the best match report and post-match managerial comment from the Otters
