Ottery St Mary continued their excellent league form with a double digit win away at North Tawton

Manager Dave Fairweather said he was ‘really pleased’ to see his team secure their fifth league win on the trot and hoped to keep going.

He told the Herald: “We’ve just got to keep going, keep winning. It’s all about performance at the end of the day. If you worry about the performance then the results will come.”

Going into the game, Ottery sat in 4th position in the Division 3 table while their hosts were rooted to the bottom in 14th.

The difference in class showed early on and Ottery were 1-0 up inside three minutes. Curtis Winchcombe was the man on the end of a quick Otters counter attack to slot the ball into the net.

Two minutes later and the team doubled their advantage. Jordan Wilkinson received the ball in the middle of the pitch before bursting past the North Tawton defence and placing the ball into the bottom left corner.

A nightmare opening 10 minutes for the home side was made worse in the eighth minute when another counter attack allowed Ottery to score their third of the game, this time it was Matt Daly who finished.

Wilkinson scored his second of the game in the 11th minute with another smart finish into the bottom left.

The Otters took full advantage of an unorganised North Tawton back line and the game looked finished before there was even 15 minutes on the clock.

The hosts did recover and began to work their way back into the game but Ottery never really looked in trouble.

In the 24th minute, Ottery made it 5-0. Daly was on hand to tuck away Winchcombe’s cross on another counter attack.

The away side grabbed another two goals before the break with Dan Jewell and Wilkinson both scoring.

The half time whistle blew at 7-0 to the Otters and North Tawton showed no signs of a comeback.

Five minutes into the second half and Ottery increased their advantage to eight. Winchcombe found room on the left and finished past the keeper.

Holding a comfortable lead, Ottery restricted the hosts who managed their first shot on target in the 69th minute.

Two more goals were added in the the final period with an own goal and Connor Lovering taking the score to double digits.

Ottery now host Budleigh Salterton 2nd on Saturday (November 24) at 3pm.
