Exmouth Town 4, Ottery St Mary FC 1Peninsula League EastExmouth were given an early Christmas present when Ottery gifted them all four goals in this match. Otters were showing the same fight as last week and dominated play for large periods of the game but, when it came to the final third, they failed miserably. Crosses were going wide and shots on goals failed to test the Exmouth keeper. Otters were in the rare situation where they found Exmouth backing off and letting them play and have the ball. On a positive note the Otters used the ball well and carved out chances - it was just that they couldn't convert any of them. Nev Furnival, making his debut, looked lively and got in his stride in the second half, managing to convert a good goal in the second half. The Exmouth goals came from two poorly defended set pieces and, in the second half, from a spilt cross which was left for the Exmouth striker to poke home. The fourth came when Exmouth counter-attacked with the Otters trying to rescue a point.Otters need to learn two things fast - how to stop giving away cheap goals and how to finish their chances as they travel away to Buckfastleigh tomorrow.
