Ottery St Mary Bowls Club travelled to Lyme Regis last weekend, a lovely green to play, close to the sea and promenade.
The journey and the sea air must have gone to the players' heads, as the club was not victorious in any one rink and as a result, lost heavily to the home team.
The following day, we travelled to Hemyock and the overall scores were very close even to the 20th end, with the scores tied at 52 all. Everything depended on the final end, and fortunately Ottery won two out of three rinks, thereby picking up a single shot to win the match by 54 to 53.
The top rink for Ottery consisted of Maurice Flower, Keith Thorley, Ryan Seers and skip Lyndsey Howell, who together, won their match by 21 shots to 12, as Captain for the day, Gerard McCarthy, allowed himself a satisfied smile.
