They were beaten on both rinks in the home meeting with Honiton, but bounced back to reverse things and win on both rinks in the home game against Budleigh.

In the win over Budleigh, the best of the Ottery rinks was the one of Terri Ward, Moyra Griffin and skip Gail Hawke, 21-10.

There were also mixed fortunes for Ottery men in the Over-60’s League.

The A team managed to hold on to top spot in Division Two after securing what was a ‘battling’ draw at home to Budleigh Salterton.

The winning Ottery rink in this fixture was the one of Steve Hall, Chris Hawke and skip John Pethick, 12-11.

The B team slipped to a 42-30 defeat on their visit to Uffculme B, but they did have some success with the rink of Tony Bushell, Ron Cook and skip Ray Luscombe winning 17-13.

With the D team not in action this week the C team took full advantage to go back to the top of Division Eight after they recorded a six point home win over Wellington C in a meeting that saw the Ottery rink of David Roberts, David Rose and skip Brian Baker win 26-13.

In an away friendly to Pinces Gardens, the home team proved too strong for Ottery, winning all four rinks and by 96 shots to 48.

Ottery got back to winning ways in the East of Exe Mixed League with a 76-45 win at Honiton, also taking rink honours 3-1. The best Ottery rink was that of Dave Brown, Steve Goodenough, Ray Luscombe and skip Gail Hawke, 27-5.

Last weekend was dedicated to the internal triples competition. Four matches were played on the Saturday with the quarter- and semi-finals being played on the Sunday.

After a great weekend’s bowling, and with food and drinks provided over the weekend by Carol Bennett’s dedicated team of helpers, two teams progressed to the club finals. They were the teams of Gail Hawke, Sharon Kenny and John Pethick and their opponents Dot Luff, Tony Panzeri and Ray Luscombe.
