The winning Ottery rink was that of Ryan Seers, Kevin Vernon, Peter Jones and skip Mike Smith, 24-18.

However, it was certainly another good week for the men in the Over-60s League.

The A team entertained Uffculme A and emerged with a 34-30 success; the winning rink was Steve Hall, Chris Hawke and skip John Pethick, 23-13.

The B team managed to draw their match at home to Phear Park B, the match ending 36-all with the winning Ottery rink being that of Graham Ward, Tony Bushell and skip Ray Luscombe, 19-15.

The C team were away to Honiton C and came away with yet another eight point haul 50-18; the best rink was Clive Russell, Frank Jones and skip Brian Baker, 32-7.

Last, but certainly not least, in terms of the men’s teams, the D team continued their recent successful run with another eight point win, this one being a 43-22 success at Sidmouth D where the best Ottery rink was the one of Maurice Flower, Tony Delahay and skip Mike Smith, 28-9.

In a recent ladies versus gents match, the Ottery ladies triumphed 74-62 with two rinks apiece.

Three men were coerced into playing for the ladies, but proved no help at all as they were all on the losing sides!

The best rink by far was that of Margaret Trayhurn, Carol Keating and skip Mo Phillips with a thumping 32-5 win.

In a close encounter at home to Chardstock, Ottery lost 79-84 and by three rinks to two with the best Ottery rink being the one of Eileen Burston, Eric Richardson and skip Ron Cook, 19-11.

Finally, Ottery took seven rinks to Moordown Bowling Club in Bournemouth, in an ‘away day tour’.

Lunch was served on arrival then proceedings began on a very hot afternoon and although only winning on one rink 23-15 with the team of Carol Bennett, Gerard McCarthy, Tony Bushell and skip Leighton Burston.

It was certainly a great day out with the party stopping on the way home to enjoy a much-needed ‘carvery’ and, of course, a few refreshments.

Thanks go to Peter Jones and Sharon Kenny for organising the day’s outing.
