In the latest round in the County Trophy, Ottery men shared the rinks with Feniton, but lost the match overall, writes Michael Smith.

Losing the contest by 75 shots to 64, the best Ottery rink was that of John Ward, Kevin Vernon, Peter Jones and skip Mike Smith, who won 22-11.

Meanwhile, in the Exeter and District Over-60s Triples League the A team continued their good run with the narrowest of victories at Budleigh where they were 30-29 winners. The successful Ottery rink was the one of Steve Hall, Chris Hawke and skip John Pethick, 21-5.

The B team entertained Uffculme B and, although they lost the match 43-34, they did have a winning rink in the shape of Richard Chapple, Bryan Salter and skip Ron Cook.

The C team continued their amazing run with another maximum point success, this time enjoying a 31-25 win at Wellington C. The best of the Ottery rinks was the one of George Hutchinson, Frank Jones and skip Brian Baker, who won 16-12.

In the LNBTL, Ottery ladies lost by just one shot at Exonia, going down 26-25 with the winning rink the one of Dot Luff, Jan Richardson and skip Carol Bennett, 15-11. Ottery men were knocked out of the Foxlands by Seaton, going down 48-25, losing on both rinks.

In a friendly fixture at Madeira, Ottery won on three rinks and Madeira won on three rinks with the hosts winning overall by 118 shots to 114.

The best Ottery rink was Eric Richardson, Val Jones, Margaret Bright and skip Leighton Burston, 25-10.

In the County competitions, congratulations to Terry House, who has won the section final of the two-wood singles after a narrow 15-12 success over fellow club member Leighton Burston.

Terry now progresses to the final 16 in the county. Ottery has three men’s pairs through to the quarter-finals in the Unbadged Pairs; Richard Bland and Ray Luscombe, Tony Bushell and Kevin Vernon, and Eric Richardson and Maurice Flower were all successful in reaching this round.

Finally, Ottery finished the week with a home fixture against Uffculme in the EEML. Each team won two rinks, but Ottery took the honours 63-58 with Dave Brown, Steve Goodenough, Ray Luscombe and skip Gail Hawke having a convincing 22-9 victory.
