Ottery St Mary claimed their first win at the sixth time of asking with a thrilling three wicket triumph over hosts Clyst St George, writes Stephen Birley.

Otters skipper Jody Clements was delighted with his team’s performance saying: “We had shown the week before that it was coming and against Clyst St George all departments of the team delivered.”

Clements did confess to some nervous moments before he could relax and savour the first triumph of the term.

He said: “I was like an expectant father pacing up and down the pavilion floor as the winning line neared. I had felt in recent weeks that all we needed is a break and this is a huge relief to us all. Now we need to build on this. In terms of the coming weeks we play sides who are in the lower half of the table and that gives us a real opportunity to start climbing the table. After playing the team immediately above us last weekend we do the same tomorrow with Dartington and Totnes sitting third bottom. More of last week’s performances and things will suddenly look a lot healthier in the camp.”
