Having been a very close second in the previous week’s Devon Triples played at The Pig on the Hill, Ottery St Mary travelled again last Sunday to play The Village Inn, Westward Ho! and The Piggies, in Devon Petanque League fixtures, writes Dave West.

The Otters fielded three husband and wife combinations in the shape of Mike and Marie Pegg, John and Rose Thatcher and Pete and Sue Smith with excellent results, securing good wins in both matches.

Playing in welcome sunshine Ottery scored a 4-1 victory in the morning against The Villagers and then moved on to beat The Piggies by the same score in the afternoon. The two wins were welcome news and the points difference were a great boost in the race against Chudleigh for the league title.
