As Ottery St Mary Bowling Club does not have indoor rinks, we are fortunate to continue bowling during the winter months with a string of friendly fixtures through the kindness of other local clubs who do possess indoor facilities, writes Michael Smith.

Results do not often go in our favour, but on a recent visit to Axminster, Ottery came away with their first win of the season by two rinks to one and an overall score of 56-46.

The best rink consisted of Maggie Beighton, Richard Ludgate, Gerry Beighton and skip Tony Luff who won 28-10.

There was also success for Kevin Vernon, Kevin took part in a recent disabled event at Taunton Dene in the Nomads Invitation Tournament.

This was a pairs event playing four games of eight ends each game. Kevin and his partner Andrew proved to be the tournament winners, winning three games and losing just one by one shot - well done Kevin, this bodes well for the summer season!
