Last Sunday saw the second round matches of the Devon Petanque League and Ottery St Mary travelled to Chudleigh where the team made a great start by winning the opening Triples games quite handsomely, writes Dave West.

However, playing on their brand new piste that had only been finished that week, Chudleigh made a real comeback by taking the three doubles to claim a 3-2 victory!

The Otters did not succumb easily and lost two of the games by only two and three points respectively.

Full results: Triples; John and Rose Thatcher and Derek Hansen 13, Franck Depreaux, Mike Moyse, Rob Thomas 0; Peter and Sue Smith and Barrie Hall 13, Thierry Hacq, Henry Pickett, John Baxter 2; Pairs; John Thatcher and Sue Smith 11, Franck Depreaux and Julian Surtees 13; Rose Thatcher and Derek Hansen 10, John Baxter and Rob Thomas 13; Pete Smith and Barrie Hall 4, Thierry Hacq and Henry Pickett 13.

It’s early (if not cold) days yet, but three teams have each recorded two match wins so far and are separated only by the number of games won.
