Ottery St Mary did not make the Francis Clark Devon League start they had hoped for.
The Otters were bundled out for just 27 in their opening day C Division game at Bideford, this after the hosts had been restricted to a total of 228-9 with Will Harrison and Jodie Clements claiming three wicket hauls.
Better news from the Otters 2nd XI who made a winning start to their B Division campaign with an emphatic six wicket home win over South Devon II.
Rob Johns took three wickets as the visitors were bowled out for 79 and then Trevor Griffin hit a half century as the Otters eased home.
On Saturday the 1st XI entertain Axminster and the 2nds travel to Cornwood II.
