Ottery St Mary Under-14s began their East Devon Youth League campaign with a comfortable 10-wicket win against Thorverton.

Thorverton fielded a young team and decided to bat first after winning the toss.

Jonathan Triner took the first wicket immediately, and captain Max Mayor, in what would be an incredible night of bowling, took two more as the visitors found themselves with one run on the board and three wickets down!

They did show some resistance, but Blundells school pupil Mayor took four more wickets and didn’t concede a run all night to finish with the truly incredible return of six wickets for no runs – and the match ball to take home and mount for posterity! Ollie Brealy took the other wicket as Thorverton finished on 73-8 from their 20 overs.

In reply, openers Matt Jeacock and James Tyler set about the run chase with relish. Jeacock retired on 40, and Tyler made 33, finishing the game with a huge six.
