Ottery St Mary Under-18s secured a superb league title with a fabulous 5-0 victory over Twyford on the final day of an outstanding season.
On 10 minutes, Haydon Simpson made the overlap to put in a lovely cross for Jack Drew-Cull to volley home Ottery’s opener. Nine minutes later, Drew-Cull turned provider with a delicious pass for Oliver Bradley to double the lead with a deft chip.
Ottery ‘keeper made a super save to protect his cleab sheet and then fed the ball to Lewis Ayley, who released captain Jake Haggerty for a pass to Leon Tootell but his cross was intercepted by the Twyford stopper.
A sublime first touch from Ewan Evans started the next Ottery surge and he romped forward to notch the third with a well-executed lob.
Ottery’s defensive trio of Reece Alexander, Charlie Parker and Ewan Evans were steadfast at the back. In midfield, Finn Foster, Haggerty and Luke Paramore were in complete control.
The game was effectively over Haggerty and Paramore combined to find Ethan Hawes, who picked out Drew-Cull for number four on the stroke of half-time. The Otters had to be patient before notching number five, Drew-Cull finishing in style with the outside of this boot.
As the final whistle sounded, the jubilant Ottery St Mary U18s had won the league by three points. The team celebrated in style, which carried on into the changing room with lots of singing, especially the appropriate sone ‘Written in the Stars’.
Manager Dave Haggerty said: “I could not have asked for any more of the boys this season. This is definitely a proud moment for them all to remember. Hard work on and off the pitch has definitely paid off.

“The final big thank-you to everyone at Ottery St Mary for all their support behind the scenes. It’s a great honour to bring some silverware home to the club.”
