Ottery St Mary had their youngest player play for the Devon Under-25 team last week, writes Michael Smith.

King’s School pupil Grace Ward is only 12, but she sailed through the county trials and took her place in the team to play Wiltshire in a match at Bridgwater.

Unfortunately, on this occasion the Devon girls lost, but Grace said it was a great experience and she wished other youngsters of her age would try the sport and maybe surprised to find what an enjoyable game it is and is not a game just for the ‘oldies’! Grace’s grandparents, John and Terri Ward, who are both members and also BDA coaches at the club, have supported Grace for the past couple of years, and would be happy to help other youngsters who would like to try their hand at bowls - all newcomers are made most welcome on Friday club nights from 5.30pm, we are in Strawberry Lane (next to the cricket club), for more information contact Mike Smith on 01404 811195.
