The Outdoor Section held their annual dinner with presentation of trophies by men’s captain Bert Hague and ladies’ captain Jill Lewis, write Sue and Peter Mison.

The ladies’ singles championship was won by Jill Bishop, runner up Marian Watson, and the men’s singles by Ray Tallent, runner up Ivan Robins. There were over 20 outdoor competitions and congratulations to all the winners. It was a most enjoyable, informal evening, attended by 80 members.

The men played against Mid Devon in the County Trophy Over-60s League on a simultaneous home and away basis, with Sidmouth losing 62-82. Congratulations to Sidmouth’s winning rink who were playing away, Mike Smith, Jim Wrench, Tony Brown and Colin Bryant with a score of 21-12.

Sidmouth ladies played another Masons game. This was against Torbay, with one rink playing at home and one away. The home team of Jean Brimson, Dreda Taylor, Evelyn Clements and Phil Nobbs played an excellent game, winning by six shots but the away team lost by 14, which meant that Torbay go through to the next round as overall winners.

The ladies’ and gents’ outdoor annual section meetings took place during the week, followed by the club’s 102nd annual general meeting, well attended by over 80 members.

In the first round of the DCIBA Inter League, the Men were drawn against Isca and, after a very tight and competitive game and, despite Sidmouth winning by 3 rinks to 1, lost the match overall by just three shots.

The same day, Exonia brought a mixed team to Sidmouth and won 71-40, winning on two rinks. Sid managed to draw on the third, 19-19, so well done to Wendy Limpus, Trevor Wells, Derek Limpus and Dreda Taylor.

Sidmouth took four mixed rinks to that other English Riviera, Torbay! Torbay won overall by 91-74 and by three rinks to one.

Winning rink was Trevor Wells, Ray Tallent, Sylvia Cook and Ron Cook by 19-16.
