The Taunton 10k attracted a field of close on 600 runners with some impressive times being recorded, writes John Perratt.

Sidmouth Running Club’s Justin Ashby and Milan Goc ran and, although Goc was ill and dosed up on antibiotics, his time of 41.32, pedestrian to him, can only be dreamt of by most in the club. Ashby, on the other hand, was feeling frisky and clocked up a PB of 36.51 for a well deserved 13th place overall.

At the last time trial of the season, Ashby put in the fastest time for the season at 21.41. One suspects that this is all secret training for the informal triathlon that he is organising with Tim Mitchell on Sunday, Oct 21, details of which can be found on www.sidmouthrunningcub.co.uk.

Justin’s son Joe recorded the quickest time of the series in the Short Course Time Trial. That series was won by last year’s winner, Toby Garrick, whilst John Keast showed that dropping a lot of weight can fool the handicapper as he sneaked in to win the Bill Valentine Shield for the longer time trial. Lucy Owen set a new ladies’ club record of 23.59. To put that into perspective only Justin, Graham Hill, Aaron Smith and Guy Bennett have been able to beat that over the 5 races of the series.
