Percy Mitchell pushes ahead

For last Monday night’s lugger sailing, the race was for the Chine Cup writes John Mortimore.

Five luggers launched from the beach and they were met by a light westerly wind. The race was of two rounds of the course.

First away from the starting line was the Scrumpy, closely followed by the Percy Mitchell. All the boats sailed seaward for the windward mark except the Puffin who tacked shorewards.

Coming up to the windward mark the Percy Mitchell had taken the lead with Twilight creeping though for second position. Scrumpy was lying in third.

Completing the first round of the race Percy Mitchell held a commanding lead from the rest of the fleet.
