SOHC Ladies’ 1, Taw Valley 0 SOHC ladies chalked up a third success of the Central League season thanks to a Lea Pigeon goal early in the second half.

SOHC started brightly with Sarah Robinson central to most of the attacking play with Chrissie Mitchell in the thick of the forward action.

Two short corners put Taw under pressure and Lea Pigeons strikes were kept out by the visiting keeper. At the other end Taw looked to fashion chances, but got little change out of the impressive Jess Allen and Jodie Parsons at the back. A lapse in concentration for the away team saw a counter attack with Sarah Hutchings and Lucy Broad working the ball up the pitch to Sophie Jackson who rifled a shot on target that was once more kept out by the excellent keeper! As play switched to the other end of the pitch SOHC keeper Hayley Dellasale made a superb stop to send the sides into the break at 0-0.

SOHC made a bright start to the second half and, when they won a short corner, the ball was cleverly worked around the top of the D where Pigeon powered it home through the keeper’s legs.

The visitors responded well and the home defence did a superb job in closing them down and keeping them at bay.

The final five minutes were frenetic as Taw claimed eight successive penalty corners, but SOHC’s impressive rear guard refused to buckle and the final whistle was greeted with great cheers by another large home support.

Hayley Delaselle received the Chick of the Game award for her fabulous saves and general organisation at the back.
