Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) ladies first team were edged out 2-1 when they travelled to Teign for their latest Petroc Division One game.
What made the contest against the second-in-the-table hosts harder, was that SOHC were without a number of regular players.
The play was even throughout the first half with really good teamwork between the defence and midfield. However, the home pressure built until the deadlock was broke with Teign scoring from one of a number of short corners to lead at the interval.
Parity was restored with a superb goal scored by teenager Fran Piper, but, inside the final 10 minutes, Teign took the points with a clinical finish. Defeat was harsh on the SOHC team, who had put plenty into an enthralling contest. The SPHC Player of the match award went to Jazz Scott for great work throughout the game.
