Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club (SOHC) ladies’ 2nd XI were involved in a game of eight goals when they played a Sedgemoor One League basement battle with Weston-super-Mare.
Both sides showed a nervousness about their play, but SOHC were leading by the odd goal in seven until a late, late equaliser by Weston saw honours end even.
The final score was harsh on SOHC who did enough to win all three points.
The stand-out individual was young Fran Piper, who also scored two of the goals, with the other scorers being Alice Pease and Karen Dutton. Piper was a constant threat to the Weston defence with some positive wing play. When leading 4-3, SOHC goalkeeper Charlotte Brodie preserved her side’s advantage when she made a wonderful penalty flick save.
Tomorrow (Saturday) the team are in action at Sidmouth where the visitors are Taunton CS for a noon kick-off.
