Although there are now fewer than seven weeks to go before the end of the outdoor season, for just £15.00 you could enjoy all the benefits of bowling club membership until next spring.

As £15.00 is a joining fee which all new members have to pay, anyone joining now is effectively paying no subscription for the first six months' membership.

So what would the benefits be?

Well ...

l You would be able to enjoy our winter social programme with various get-togethers in our licensed clubhouse.

l You would be able to find out if the game is to your liking and, if it is, to enter for the many indoor away games which we arrange throughout the winter against clubs with indoor greens.

l If you enjoyed it, then, in the spring, you can pay the membership for next season without, of course, paying the joining fee again. If you did not find it to your liking, then you let your membership lapse.

There has been quite a bit of success in recent times.

On July 30, our Over 60s B team played Exeter (ISCA), formerly Whipton, and, by winning on one of the two rinks played and having the higher aggregate score, got six of the eight points available.

A previous round against this team, which had been postponed from May, was played on our green on Monday, August 4. Ottery won on both rinks and, with the higher aggregate score, took all eight points.

On Thursday, July 31, we entertained a touring side from Hawth Bowls Club and Ottery won the match.

On Friday, August 1, we had a visit from Madeira Bowling Club, Exmouth, and the visitors won.

On Saturday, August 2, we had our President's Day and six internal teams of ladies took on the gentlemen.

The ladies needed the men to lend them three honorary "ladies" and great fun was had by all. The gentlemen won, but not by a great margin.

There is still the opportunity for anyone interested in this enjoyable and competitive sport to come along on any Friday evening at, or after, 5.45pm, bringing flat shoes.
