Ottery St Mary FC 0, Colaton Raleigh FC 11

A good crowd for this pre-season friendly at Washbrook Meadow saw Colaton Raleigh turn on a great display of football, after an even and hard fought first 25 minutes, writes Ken Woodsford.

Ottery looked a good footballing side with plenty of pace, before Adrian Parr broke the deadlock with a neat left foot finish, to put Raleigh ahead. Five minutes later, Riki Pitter out wide on the left, sent in a superb cross beyond the far post where “Marco Van” Pavey hit an unbelievable volley across the keeper.

Goals continued to flow as Raleigh played simple football, helped by the pace and movement off the ball, from the front four, Mark Tett, Tony Cox, Parr and Pavey.

Highlight of the second half, a 30 yard drive by Parr which flew in to the net, for a goal that the Ottery keeper could only stand and admire.

The goals were shared between Pavey, Parr, Cox, (Mark)Tett and Liam Keast.

Men of the match Damian Armes and Adrian Parr, with mention for centre backs, Matt Tett and Ben Squance, who were solid throughout.

olaton Raleigh 2nds travelled to Ottery St Mary 2nds on Saturday afternoon.

Raleigh started the game strongly with some great work in the middle of the park from Chris Harwood and Graham Hughes.Raleigh put together an excellent string of passes for Harrison Jones to set up Adam Howe for the opener.

Raleigh continued to control the game with James Hiscox setting up Howe again for a 2-0 half time lead.

After the break, Raleigh made changes with 15 year old Zak Smith and Blake Blackwood, 17, coming off the bench to put in some fine displays on the wings.

Ottery continued to try and break down the Raleigh defence but had no joy as Aaron Howe and Mark Gerry were also having a great day. Aaron Howe sent the ball forward to set up his brother Adam to complete his hat-trick.

To finish off the afternoon Aaron Howe then went on a run from the back to score a 30yrd screamer to settle the game.
