The twentieth round of the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday night league was won by Paul Renken, writes John Barnard.
Renken returned a great score of 43 points which could have been even better without a double bogie on sixteen and a bogie on 17.
It was enough to see his handicap reduced by three shots, not ideal as he is in the final of the Seniors Knockout!
In second place was club manager Jonathan Lee, with a continuing run of form. He was proceeding serenely, level gross stood on the 17th tee after three birdies and three bogies, when he conspired not to score at all. A steady par on the last meant 38 points. In third place was Lester Willmington. A slow front nine of 14 points was then followed by a great back nine, one over gross, but he will be ruing not concentrating on the third when he went to tap in from less than a foot and missed!
Despite a poor day on the course, Mark Thomas still leads the Friday night league by 28 points from Lee Wenhan who has now moved six points ahead of Craig Melluish in third.
