The Rest of the World team were said to be determined in their efforts to win the J H Taylor putter from the strong East Devon team selected to defend it once more, writes George Carr.
The history of this aged putter, played for annually by teams selected from club members, is shrouded in the mists of time and so perhaps it is only fitting that the Rest of the World were themselves frustrated in their efforts to win it by the thick mist that settled about the hills of Sidmouth on the day!
Sadly the elements forced the match to be abandoned after a few very wet and misty holes.
That left a large field of very disappointed golfers sitting gloomily in the, albeit very comfy, club house, watching other sporting events on the television screen - not nearly so much fun!
