Sidmouth 2nd XI bounced back from their surprise defeat at basement side Clyst Hydon seven days before by defeating Alphington by 107 runs.

Batting first, the Fortfield men were led to an impressive 299-7 by a century from opener Elliott Rice. The former Budleigh batter lost opening partner Issac Thomas to a duck but, went onto score 101 from 101 balls hitting a dozen fours and two sixes. There was also a fine 42-ball 60 from Nick Gingell and a knock of 51 from skipper Anthony Griffiths.

In reply Alphington were bowled out for 192 in 43.3 overs with Byron Knowles taking the bowling honours with his return being 4-49 from 8.3 overs. Third change Daley Holmes (3-21 from nine overs), Thomas Simmons (1-35) and Ed Hurley (1-50), were the other wicket takers.

The win keeps Sidmouth 2nds 13 points clear of second place Kilmington who they visit on August 11. This Saturday (July 28) the table-toppers travel to fourth bottom Braunton.
