Well over eighty members teed off for the Charles Stanley stableford at Sidmouth on Monday, writes George Carr.

On a perfect day for golf with the course a picture of pristine fairways and ever improving greens.

The conditions were ideal for long-handicappers, or so it would seem judging from the final leader board.

Clive Roberts used 20 of his 24 shots to card a winning 43 points.

Two points behind on 41, another Roberts - Chris this time, took second spot dropping only 10 of his 16 shots with one birdie and impressively level par through holes seven, eight and nine, even so, he kept Michael Smith in third place only on count-back.

Steve Milton’s steady golf for 39 points brought him 4th place and kept long-handicapper Charles Oram behind him in 5th spot, also, only after count-back.

Martin White was sixth with 38 points playing very sound golf off a four handicap and was the nearest short handicapper in evidence; which is a pity, because this reporter took rather a fetching photograph of Martin on the first tee in anticipation of something better; but the time will come!
