Sidbury welcomed Seaton to the Millfield ground for one of the last fixtures of the year.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bat in a 30-over game. After some rain in the week the pitch offered a bit for the bowlers, with Pearse brothers James and Mark, opening the bowling and causing problems from the start.

Sidbury turned to Steve Crick and John Miller, as first change bowlers who continued the good work.

With bowlers restricted to six overs each the Sidbury skipper juggled the fifth bowler slot between Chris Fitzhenry, who has played several times for Sidbury this year although this was his first game at home, Nigel Lyon, in just his second game for the year, and East Devon Under-12 player Josh Miller. All three bowled an excellent line. The combined efforts of the bowlers, backed up by some enthusiastic fielding restricted the batting side to 125.

After another fine tea Windy Miller and Josh Reed launched the Sidbury reply.

The pair were tied down by some very impressive bowling to such a degree that the first nine overs only produced nine runs!

However neither lost their wicket and, after they had played themselves in the run rate began to increase.

Reed was finally caught for 31 and was replaced by Simon Rowe who joined Windy Miller. The pair continued to move the score board along at a healthy rate only for Seaton’s bowlers to battle back.

However, the batsmen prevailed and the winning line was crossed with nine wickets and one over to spare with both Rowe and Miller not out 41.

There is one more match to be played for Sidbury this season and it is this Saturday (September 6).

It’s Sidbury’s current players taking on a Sidbury CC part Players XI in the annual memorial game which starts at 2pm.
