Tiverton RFC 0, Sidmouth RFC 3 (under-16s): Despite torrential overnight rain and a forecast of more to come, the pitch at Tiverton remained playable, although the heavy conditions tested the strength and stamina of both teams.

Sidmouth had the majority of the possession in the first half but were unable to capitalise.

The ball rarely found its way into the Sidmouth half and, when it did, was promptly returned with renewed vigour. Tiverton became increasingly desperate to stop the visitors scoring and resorted to infringements which were spotted by the referee and resulted in numerous Sidmouth penalties. Despite seven such being awarded to Sidmouth inside the Tiverton 22 metre line, the tactics continued.

The frustration of the Sidmouth forwards began to show but they maintained their discipline.

As the half-time whistle was about to blow, yet another penalty was awarded when Tiverton handled in a ruck. Ben Watson placed the ball and calmly converted from an acute angle. This put Sidmouth into a small but well deserved lead at half time.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Tiverton side that reversed the trend and secured most of the possession.

In spite of Tiverton accidentally fielding 16 players for a short spell before being noticed, the Sidmouth defence was good enough to prevent the home side from scoring.

The most notable performance of the day came from Gareth Pearson who, with great athleticism, repeatedly gained ground for the forwards.

Midweek training for Sidmouth is clearly paying dividends, highlighted by their confident displays at lineouts and set pieces.
