Sidmouth Under-13 girls impress in matches at Crediton

Sidmouth U13 girls were in action at Crediton where they met the home side and then Kingsbridge.
The first match against Crediton saw the Sidmouth forwards controlling the ball and getting one try through Lotti Reed, but the Crediton girls were fleet-footed out wide and crossed for two tries to take the match honours by the smallest of margins.
Game two, against old rival Kingsbridge, saw a similar problem for Sidmouth with pace out wide seeing the opposition take an early lead. However, it was pointed out that Kingsbridge had one too many players on the pitch!
Restarting, the Sidmouth girls started playing with greater thought to their game and they began to stop the ball from getting to the flanks.
They were also able to launch counter-attacks and, from one of them, Maisie Herbert managed to find some space, and, with a great turn of pace, showed a clean set of heels to the opposition defenders to dive over in the corner.
The belief within the Sidmouth ranks visibly grew and, with TT Maloney, Amber Spence and Abi Alner, combining well they were awarded a free-kick a third of the way up the pitch.
Taking it quickly Maisie Herbert found Ellie Monro Higgs at pace and allowed her to crash past the Kingsbridge players to score.
Despite superb tacking from Imogen Bagwell, who, at one point, crossed the pitch for a try-saving tackle, Kingsbridge managed to get another try.
The ball came wide from Charlotte Austen Rigby to Mia White to Bella Giles and on to a looping Maisie Herbert for her second of the day.
In the closing stages, despite some valiant defensive play from Rosie Moore, Kingsbridge managed to bag another try.
The whole Sidmouth team can feel very proud of their supreme efforts across both matches which were against two of the best sides in this age group.
