Sidmouth Under-9s impress on Cornish tour

Sidmouth Under-9s thoroughly enjoyed the part they played in the club's 'Heroes and Villains' tour to Cornwall.
At first glance, opponents Redruth looked intimidating in stature and were clearly well-drilled by their ‘passionate’ coach.
However, this Sidmouth team weren’t in the slightest bit concerned and produced their best performance of the season (possibly ever!) and soon got to work scoring some fantastic team tries!
Hayden Barnes was in his usual destructive form and he proved a real handful for the Redruth players.
Oscar Finch served up his ‘A’ game, showing his class in defence as well as attack on numerous occasions, while the Sidmouth team also fielded their own version of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ in the shape of formidable trio Ayla Burrow, Isabelle Wood and Tahlia Manning.
The girls always put their heart and soul into games, and, with the powerful running of Manning, the tenacious tackling of Burrow and the speed of Wood, they certainly are a huge asset to this team.
Jude Barrett produced one of his best performances this season with strong, direct running, which was well supported by Harry Simic and Jonno Fletcher, who both produced rounded performances in attack and defence.
Alex Moore and Jack Clarkson were as reliable as ever, combining jinking runs with solid tackling, as did George Adam – the Scotsman clearly buoyed by his country’s victory over England – who went at Redruth with his usual fearless tackling and never-give-up attitude.
Coach Matt Barrett could not have been prouder of his team. He said: “Every single one of them stepped up to the mark and combined with each other superbly to outscore a big, strong Redruth side - even after a full night’s partying beforehand.”
