Sidmouth under-12 rugby: This was an entertaining, fast and physical game played in excellent spirit. The final whistle was greeted by a deserved and generous round of applause from both sets of supporters.

Sidmouth started strongly, dominating possession and coming close to scoring on several occasions.

Tom Norris had his best game of the season, tackling and carrying the ball with real confidence.

Headon, Rutland, Pares and Down all worked hard and the set-pieces went well for the Sidmouth forwards.

Carlisle, as a loose forward, and Jenkins, at full back, ran superbly from deep positions. Dicks made one outstanding tackle on the wing and Harris and Goddard are forming a strong partnership in the midfield; they defend well and are making their passes under pressure.

With Sidmouth on top, Topsham scored against the run of play through an interception and their centre ran strongly to slip in at the corner.

Sidmouth's equalising score, greeted with a huge cheer, came from Toby Seldon whose fitness and game play improves each week.

This was another good display by the u-12s with many positives.

However, in hindsight, the players will look back at a missed opportunity to record another win.

Sidmouth created a number of excellent scoring chances but poor decision-making and teamwork too often meant they were wasted. Rugby is simple and exciting but too often made very complicated by a lot of people running around trying to guess what each other is going to do next.

The team has a great attitude and is enjoying an excellent season with some good results and outstanding individual performances.

The players and coaches will keep working hard on skills, fitness, decision making and teamwork to build on the good platform they already have; they could even try some mind reading practice too, it might help!
