Luke Sheppard is playing some great golf at the moment and this showed in his fine round in the Stableford, firing in three gross birdies on his way to 44 points. In second place, with 42 points, Nick Gingell who is in fine form with both club and bat. Unlucky to be bringing up the rear in the placings was Duncan Taylor who also had 42 but lost out on the back nine. The top three players produced 15 birdies between them. In the seniors' roll up, George Hudec, having had some winter training, scored 41 points and beat Brian Skittrall, who also had 41 points, on the back nine.Having lost 4-2 away at Warren two weeks ago, the seniors were able to redress the balance when they recorded a 51/2-1/2 win in the return match on Thursday. There were some very impressive performances and Roger Bawden's putting was a feature of his continued good form this season. The team result was not as good when the seniors were away at Ilfracombe on Monday, although again there were some very good individual performances. David Roberts had an excellent game and was, in part, rewarded by winning a bottle of wine for being nearest the pin on the third hole. Unfortunately, the Captain did not provide David with the support he deserved and they lost their match 3 and 1. Brian LeMasurier was also in good form and, with rather more support from last year's captain, Dieter Ritz, was able to record the only win of the day. Halves from Peter Spooner and Peter Wells, and Mike Flattley and Rob Owen meant that the final result was a 4-2 win for Ilfracombe.l The B-team hosted, and won, a match against Elfordleigh Golf Club, 4-2. The weather was superb, only spoiled by two showers, which seemed to be brought on by Nick 'the rain' Bater saying "we may get rain" and sure enough as soon as he spoke, rain fell from a cloudless sky. The results were: Colin Macklin and Nick Bater won 4/3, Terry Carter and John Barnard lost 1 down, Stephen French and Steve Crabb won 4/2, David Roberts (MBE) and John Carroll (DSO) lost 1 down, John Emmott and Don Cooper won 2 up and, after sending out the search party to look for them, Hugh Dorliac and Rocket Ron Vanstone won 2 up. The twos' prize, sponsored by Acanthus Press, The Radway Inn, Stuart Collings (painter & decorator) and The Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic Ltd, were won by Colin Macklin and Tony Bickle from Elfordleigh.
