Sid thirds enjoy goal glut

TURNING round at half time 1-0 up, Sidmouth had high hopes of a win on their travels, but a combination of ill fortune and poor finishing saw them defeated, writes John Goodwin.
The home side had the best of the opening exchanges, but they were kept at bay and, when Richard Stenning vacated defensive duties for a foray upfield, he created space for Bill Eveleigh who was unmarked in the heart of the D and struck the ball home.
Sidmouth ended the half playing some of their most confident hockey of the season, but they were unable to continue it after the break.
Bridgwater’s equaliser came when a shot going well wide struck Brian Woodward’s shinpad to deflect in. Bridgwater went ahead and Sidmouth had a golden chance to equalise but Cliff Jones swept the ball wide of an open goal after Adrian Posta had drawn the goalkeeper and crossed.
Bridgwater sealed the points when a short corner receiver drifted to the right of the D to shoot home.
