Two second half goals, from Russell Coombs and Kevin Dorman, gave the Seagulls three valuable points at local rivals Seaton. For Dorman it was an excellent afternoon as, despite having to be content with a place on the substitute's bench, he replaced the injured Sam Elstub after 15 minutes and hardly put a foot wrong. But it wasn't all about Dorman as the whole squad played a major role in what was the club's first win in a league match at Seaton for many years. The first half began well for Sidbury, having most of the play, and they should have scored as early as the third minute from a well delivered Stuart Coombs corner that Dan Churchill hit a defender with from a yard out. As the game progressed, Seaton began to impose themselves more and by half time the game was very even but it was Sidbury's second half display that surprised everyone. After five minutes of constant pressure from the home side, Russ Coombs pounced on a mistake and finished in style.Sidbury then went on to dominate. Steve Popham thought he had increased the lead from another Stu Coombs corner but Joe Webber was adjudged to have fouled before the ball reached him. The second goal came on 70 minutes when Matt Rasmussen fired in a wonderful strike that the keeper could only parry onto the head of the in-rushing Dorman.Seaton tried to reply but some excellent defending from Man of the Match Stuart Coombs kept his side's lead intact. There was one tackle he made when Bradley Groves was through with just Martyn Parker to beat, Coombs somehow managed to get a toe to the ball to send it out for a corner and was relieved when the referee saw it as a goal kick. Another headed goalline clearance amazed everyone and capped a star man performance.A delighted manager Mel Coombs said: "That was one of the most satisfying results I've had for a long time. Firstly because it was Seaton with the local rivalry and, secondly, because of the character we showed throughout the game."It was played in a fantastic spirit with no nonsense and, although we won well in the end, the game could so easily have gone the other way."The attitude of the whole squad was superb,. We have an excellent team who seem to be rising to every challenge put in front of them. Let's hope we can keep the momentum going."l This Saturday the first XI host Broadclyst while the Seconds play Broadclyst Res away, both games kicking off at 2.15pm.
