Sidbury 0, Heavitree 0

Sidbury Utd dominated the first half in this match but poor finishing and decision making in the final third of the pitch let them down.

Dan Churchill missed a header from five yards out and had the freedom of the right wing but was unable to make it count.

In the second half Sidbury were nowhere near as good. It was a much more even half but the Sidbury defence of Bacon, Squance and Channing never looked like being breached.

Manager Jeremy Schofield said: “A month ago, people had written the club off, but it is great to see that we have big characters in the dressing room and players willing to work hard for the case. We are much better organised and able to keep more or less the same team each week.”

Witheridge 1, Sidbury Utd 1

Witheridge were on a high after beating Cullompton 4-0 away and Sidbury travelled with a bare 11, with key players Grover, Burgess, Bacon, Nield and Channing missing from the bank holiday Monday side. Assistant manager Stuart Selley was on the sheet as emergency sub, but it would have to be some emergency!

It hammered down with rain all game but Sidbury battled all the way on a big pitch that became heavy underfoot. Captain Joe Webber put in a major shift as did Luke Hardy in midfield. Aston Puckey had a shot saved before he span the defence and squared the ball for an easy tap in for Hardy.

The defence worked hard and keeper Jamie Harvey had little to do. Smith, Clay and Squance did well to keep tabs on the two Witheridge forwards who tried to latch on to constant long ball. They did equalise with their only shot just before half time when a 25-yard strike was tipped into the top right corner by unlucky keeper Jamie Harvey who thought it stayed out and hit the bar, but it hit the metal net support bar!

Both teams tired in the second half.
