Sidbury Under-10s were beaten by Sampford Peverell, but not before all involved in the game clearly enjoyed the parts they played.

The visitors batted first and the opening Sidbury bowlers, Thomas Grove and Alec Bagwell kept things tight. Charley Turley made the break through when he hit the stumps with a fine delivery. Eli Moss showed superb form with the ball and later the bat, and is looking like a great prospect for the rest of the season. Karan Patel and Alex Williams showed good control with the ball as Sampford Peverell closed their innings on a modest 299.

Charley Turley and Jack Pugh launched the Sidbury reply with a quick-fire partnership of 23. Eli Moss drove the Sampford bowlers back over their heads a couple of times with some delightful strokes. Alex Williams, Jerry Deng and Karan Patel struck the ball solidly and looked for some daring singles, but the middle order was hampered by a series of wickets and some great fielding from the visiting side.

When the final home pair, Thomas Grove and Alec Bagwell came to the wicket they required 66 from the last four overs to win the game. The pair batted with gusto and a little luck, striking one six and a clutch of fours, but in the end they fell 17 short. Sampford Peverell’s discipline proved the winner, but morale was high across the board and everyone drifted away to a sunny afternoon with smiles on their faces.
