Sidbury Under-10s were handsome winners when they met Honiton in a hardball fixture.

After a slightly delayed start to allow the pitch to be ‘mopped’, Sidbury won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Some remarkably tight bowling from the Tanner brothers, George at one end, Henry at the other, kept the Honiton opening batsmen quiet.

Indeed, this set the tone, with Josh John-Ringe picking up a wicket in his first over and Jack Pugh bowling a tight line too to limit the runs mainly to nicks and edges.

Skate Leisk put in a tremendous performance behind the stumps, wearing the gloves for the first time in a match, and combined exceptionally well with the later bowlers, Scott Monro-Higgs returning his best figures, and a sharp spell from skipper Charley Turley, to pin the opposition down.

Despite the rain, the outfield played fast and Honiton’s total of 253 looked very gettable. The Tanner boys again made a solid start. Sidbury consistently scored above the required run rate, but the last two pairs of batsmen accelerated this beyond doubt. If the two exquisite cover drives for four from Alec Bagwell reflected the panache of the Sidbury innings, the dominance was exhibited by the clean pulled six by Tom Grove off the last ball, as Sidbury CC posted 307 in their reply.

A great team effort to which everyone contributed with equal measure and for which they should all feel very proud.
