Sidbury juniors have been in action lately with one of their games being a Devon Cup 2nd round meeting with Culmstock.
First up, the U13 girls played Sandford and, after winning the toss, invited Sandford to bat first and the Sidbury bowlers restricted the Mid Devon team to a score of 57-2 after 16 overs.
The Sidbury reply was launched by Charlotte and Harriet Austen-Rigby before the next pair, Jess Perry and Rosie Miller, added momentum to the innings with a series of fours.
The final pair to come in, Ellie Monro Higgs and Caitlin Perry, then proceeded to break Sidbury’s previous pairs record of 47 by scoring 55 and that’s a new ‘team best’ that should stand for some time!
Captain Annabelle Bird said: “Both sides played very well and we are already looking forward to the return match in July.”
The Sidbury U11 team took on a Whimple side that had beaten them earlier in the season.
Sidbury batted first, with Luca and Zac Arver opening and they were soon finding the boundary rope on what was a very quick outfield.
The total was further boosted by the pairing of Jerry Deng and Oscar Bond.
When Whimple replied, they were met full on by some terrific Sidbury bowling with some fine figures produced by the bowler with wickets for Scott Munro Higgs (2-9), Rosie Miller (1-6), Zac Arver (1-13), Oscar Bond (1-7), Charlie Turley (1-2), Alec Bagwell (1-5) and Tom Grove (1-2).
The Under-11s then met Culmstock in that Devon Cup tie. Sidbury batted first and it was Luca Arver who made the biggest impression with the bat, scoring 27 before he was bowled.
Wickets were lost and the Sidbury hopes of posting a healthy score sagged until Tom Grove and Alec Bagwell settled the innings down, adding 50 between them and, late hitting from Charley Turley and Jack Pugh, helped Sidbury to a closing total of 170-6 after their 20 overs.
Culmstock made a confident start, but the Sidbury bowlers battled back and wickets were taken by Charley Turley (1-7), Immy Bagwell (1-5) and Jack Pugh (1-13) whilst there was also some fine fielding by Scott and Ellie Monro Higgs, Herbie Isherwood, Harriet Austen-Rigby and Zac Arver.
That all meant the Culmstock reply floundered on 115 to give Sidbury a deserved victory and, in the next round, they will lock horns once again with Sandford.
