Sidbury United continue their pre-season work tonight (Friday) when they entertain Upottery.

United were in action last Saturday when they entertained South West Peninsula League Eastern Division outfit Budleigh Salterton.

The sides shared two goals in an entertaining game that saw both teams boss a half each!

Byes Lane chief Jeremy Schofied said: “It was exactly the sort of work-out I wanted for the lads. I thought they (Budleigh) looked decent and they enjoyed much the better of the second half in the similar fashion to how we had controlled things before half-time.”

The deadlock was broken when a powerful run from new signing Brendon Holmes ended with the ball falling to Dave Green on the edge of the area and he eased past a defender before rifling the ball across the keeper and into the roof of the net! The lead lasted 10 minutes before Budleigh levelled things up making the most of some confusion in the United defensive ranks when the referee awarded a free-kick. It was taken quickly and tucked away past the impressive Harry Slack in the United goal.

He says: “I am looking forward to getting my strongest team yet onto the pitch. That’s not to put anything down against those that have been playing so far for they have all done well. For us to hold a talented outfit like Budleigh strengthens my belief that we really do have strength in depth at the club and this season promises much for us - if we work hard enough and really want it!”

United still have games to come against Exwick Villa (August 1) and three days later they take on Sidmouth Town.

Sidbury begin their Fresha League Premier Division campaign on Saturday, August 15, with a visit to Bow AAC.
