Sidford Tennis Club's Ladies' A team played local rivals Budleigh Salterton last week and were delighted to record a 6-5 win.

Emma Fidge and Marilyn Barlow played well to win their first rubber in two hard-fought sets. Their second rubber proved more demanding but they pulled off a 2-1 win.

Jane Chalk and Jane Wakley were unlucky to lose both rubbers in a championship tie-break third set which could have gone either way.

The win puts the team fourth in Division 2, just four points behind the leaders, Okehampton, with a game in hand giving them a chance of promotion back to the first division.

The men's team played two matches in four days; the first one against Exeter Golf & Country Club 'D' was a hard fought encounter which, after over three hours play, ended in a 4-4 draw; Paul Carter with Graham Baker produced arguably their best performance of the season to win both their games in straight sets to secure all of Sidford's points. Their second match was against the division leaders Sampford Peverell B but, after some hard tennis, rain intervened with the match delicately poised at 3-2 to Sidford.

Paul Carter and Graham Baker continued their good form to record a straight sets victory whilst Mike Dommett with Kevin Tratt picked up a point when narrowly losing to Sampford Peverell's first pair in three nip and tuck sets.

The club are very keen to welcome along new members particularly anyone interested in playing evening club and match tennis.?
