Sidford Tennis Club throws its doors and courts open this Sunday (April 8) to celebrate and look forward to the start of the 2018 tennis season, writes Daryl Bass.

We are a small community club, with a passion for tennis, and help provide families with a healthy, active lifestyle – catering for all ages!

During the week we have a range of social tennis occurring at the club and our club nights are Thursday evenings from 6.30pm and there is plenty to look forward to this season.

We run both adult and junior coaching programmes and have a ladies’, mixed and men’s team competing in the Exeter district tennis league.

On Sunday, from 2pm, we would like to invite members past, present and new to join us for an afternoon of tennis and refreshments.

You can be assured of a warm welcome to accompany the traditional cups of tea and tempting homemade cakes!

This year we will also be continuing with our clubhouse improvements to create a more relaxing environment to enjoy on those heady summer nights.

So why not come along, park your car up next to the courts and pop in to say hello!

We are particularly keen to seek out those ‘rusty rackets’ and improving adults among the local community, and, on Monday, April 23, starting at 5.45pm, Sue Wiltshire will be commencing her next block of adult coaching.

This complements the popular adult cardio tennis held on Friday mornings.

Our junior coaching programme also ramps up soon, starting on Friday, April 20, for mini tennis, teenage girls, teenage boys and advanced match players. For the younger children we are also delivering the LTA’s Tennis for Kids programme, which starts during the school summer holiday mornings from July 23 to 28. This is for the five- to nine-year-old age groups, and is a fun-based way of introducing children to the game of tennis. Limited spaces are available for this course so to book your place please go to the website www.tennisforkids.co.uk

For further details of all our adult and junior tennis coaching programme and to reserve a place on the courses, please contact Sue directly on sue.wiltshire@hotmail.com or check out the club’s website at www.clubspark.lta.org.uk/sidfordtennisclub

If you prefer to play competitive match tennis and would like to join one of our teams in the league then please contact daryl.bass@harmonic.co.uk

We are also hosting a larger party on Sunday, May 13, to celebrate our 70th anniversary and will provide details in due course.
