There was a lot of good weather last week for Sidmouth's lady bowlers, the only exception being on Wednesday afternoon for the aptly named Ladies Umbrella.Rain began just after the start of play, and, although the ladies valiantly kept on going, the decision to abandon was taken just after the tea break. It was a pity that they couldn't continue later as it turned out to be a beautiful evening! Hopefully, the sun will keep shining next week. Congratulations yet again to Sidmouth's Jill Bishop and Pat Pritchard who have won through to the next round of the Devon County Over-55 Pairs competition They now have to play their next round by July 13. Good luck, ladies! The Devon County Ladies Bowls Association Inter Club Competition is a very tough competition with over 50 Devon clubs taking part.Despite winning through to the next round, Sidmouth ladies are out of the Top Club competition, having lost to Kings of Torquay. In the Friendly matches Sidmouth welcomed Clarence Bowling Club from Weston-super-Mare. Two rinks were played which resulted in a draw, 33-33 . Best rink was: Rita Daw, Sylvia Cook, Mary Price and Eileen Hewett 24-11 The only other friendly match of the week was again at home, this time against Chardstock It was three rinks of triples, but regrettably Sidmouth ladies got beaten on all rinks. The ladies' in -house competitions are now under way with some extremely good, competitive bowling, despite the dry conditions of the green This week saw the start of the Ladies Handicap and the Nina Cup. Well done to all those who took part, and good luck to those who now go through to the next round
