Sidmouth 4ths show potential

PUBLISHED: 15:25 16 December 2010

Sidmouth went into this game with the hope of getting a win, having won the away fixture earlier in the season.

The side was also confident following the previous week’s victory, although it was a much changed team that took to the pitch.

With rolling subs aplenty, the players gave their all in the first half, with coach Laurence Cole even taking to the pitch to lead the front line.

The teams went into the interval with Chard having taken the lead from a penalty flick, after a goal-bound shot was stopped on the line by a Sidmouth foot.

In the second half, Chard started to take control of the game with some good play.

Sidmouth gave up possession of the ball all to frequently, with stray passes allowing the opposition to build up several attacks.

As the half progressed, so Chard extended their lead three times.

Despite some poor play, Sidmouth did manage to put some good moves together, which put the Chard defence under pressure, but the opposition goalkeeper was rarely troubled, with a solid defensive line-up operating in front of him.

The side goes into the Christmas break with a reasonable record, with 10 points earned in the first part of the season.

Sidmouth can also be proud of the younger players who have claimed regular places in the line-up, who have all shown some good potential with their skills, which can only be a good thing for the club’s future.
