Sidmouth teams continue to experience mixed fortunes in the Exeter and District Over-60s Triples’ League, writes Ron Cook.

The A squad have picked up six and then eight points in recent matches to move tantalisingly close to the league title, but have a monumental struggle against them with the final two away matches against Madeira A and B.

Hot on their heels, are Marina A, Madeira A and Pinces A, all of whom are within 14 points of the A squad with just 16 points left to play for.

Marina A, who have a game in hand, hold the strongest position.

Meanwhile, Sidmouth B squad banked a brace of points in two matches and the C squad picked up two points and then eight to strengthen their position in the table.

We wish all our teams and players the best of luck over the next two crucial weeks of the campaign.

The past week saw Sidmouth play friendly matches with Madeira and Bradninch.

The Madeira match was away with the Exmouth team winning on four rinks to the two Sidmouth rink successes. Overall Madeira took the match honours 92-83.

There was an outstanding performance from the top Sidmouth trio of Stuart Thomson, Ken Day and skip Chas Coates who romped to a 30-11 win. Well done, Chas and his team.

What’s more, in the Madeira match one of the club’s newest members, Terry Rawlings, played his first game for the club and he teamed up with Derek Mountford and skip Peter Mison to enjoy a 22-17 victory. Well done, Terry and all the teams.

The visit of Bradninch saw Sidmouth claim a narrow two shot success, winning 73-71.

The best performing rink in this match was the one of Ken Day, Lynda Hargrave, Wilf Radburn and skip Sussie Bonnell.

Again, well done to this team against strong opposition.
