In the Exeter and District Over-60s League, Sidmouth A squad played their second match in two weeks away at Madeira and on this occasion took all eight points to top Division one of the League for the first time in 13 years, writes Ron Cook.

Sidmouth did also win the coveted honour in 2000 and 2001.

The final table showed Sidmouth A and Marina A level on 94 points each, but Sidmouth had a solid advantage on shot difference, securing the title by a margin of 48 shots.

Considering the Sidmouth side escaped dropping out of the top division by the slender margin of two points last season this season has proved to be a quite remarkable turn around in results.

The team went to the top of the league in week five and stayed there for 13 weeks, which is an incredible achievement in itself. Well done to all our players Norman Brimson, Bob Daniels, David Hughes, John Mason, Bob Seldon, Ray Tallent, Chris Rourke, Brian Lamb and Ron Cook.
