It was the ladies’ side of Sidmouth and Ottery Hockey Club that led the way in the second round of league fixtures with three of the four teams claiming the three points.

The ladies first team travelled to Minehead at the start of the day and recorded an impressive victory, winning 1-9.

The second team also claimed the three points on offer in their away fixture at Taunton Vale, winning 1-2 but the third team did not fare so well.

Playing at home against Exeter and Culm Vale, they lost 0-9. The fourth team played well to claim all the points in their home game against Taunton Vale 4, winning 2-1.

But on the men’s side of the club, the teams did not fare so well. The first team were beaten by Exeter and Culm Vale Hornets in an away fixture, losing 3-1.

The second team took on West Dorset at home. The visitors played well in the first half, taking a 3-0 lead before the break.

After the interval, it was a more even affair but the home side was unable to get any goals back, despite applying some good pressure at times.

And with the third team without a game, the fourths were able to play their home fixture with substitutes and lost 1-2.

It was a good effort against a well-drilled team and the side can hope for better results as the season goes on.
