Archant

Sidmouth and Ottery (SOHC) ladies second team were 2-1 winners when they journeyed to Bridgwater for a ladies Central League meeting.

In a high tempo start SOHC created a number of good opportunities and peppered the home goal, but without getting any into the net. The home side came back well and it required some solid defending, particularity by Emily Ackland and Annie Clay, both of whom executed important tackles, to keep them at bay and the first half ended with the contest still seeking its first goal.

Early in the second half Bridgwater edged ahead when they converted a penalty corner. However, within minutes, Phoebe Roberts used her stick skills to go around the home goalkeeper and slot the ball home.

There was a heart stopping moment for the travelling supporters when Bridgwater had a strike from the top of the D, but somehow Sara Roberts managed to do a stick save on the line!

SOHC then had a series of attacking penalty corners in succession and finally, after an initial shot was saved, and some great passing around the top of the D, Karen Dutton fired home what proved to be the wining goal.

In what was a superb all-round team performance there were notable shifts in midfield from Maisie Pritchard and Sara Roberts. The SOHC Chick of the Day award went to Phoebe Roberts both for her excellent work up front and her splendid goal.
