Sidmouth and Ottery men’s 1st XI made it five wins from five starts to consolidate top spot in the Southern Two table as they defeated an under-par Plymouth Marjon C side 5-0.
In what was something of a ‘contest of two different halves’, SOHC laboured to hold their intended formation and so found it difficult to penetrate an organised student defensive effort.
Whatever was said at the break certainly worked, for the second half saw the team play with an extra step in their stride and golden stick contender Ali Slade slotted the ball past the Marjon glovesman to break the deadlock. Boosted by the goal the team began to move the ball with greater confidence and pace and it was no surprise when skipper George Powell and Nick Mansfield netted – the latter walking the ball into the net to end his recent goal drought!
George Harvey Powell and Ali Slade added further goals to round off an excellent second half for the side.
Two-goal Ali Slade was named the Man of the Match. SOHC men sit three points clear of second-placed Plymouth C and ought to make it six wins from six league starts when they entertain ninth-placed West Dorset at Ottery St Mary (12.30pm).
